About Ennisclare Woods

Ennisclare Woods is a superior Rural Estate Community accommodating 29 exclusive homes on 200 acres of magnificant Niagara Escarpment uplands.

The properties vary in size from two to nine acres, each chosen to provide an appropriate setting for an Estate House, complemented by landscape designed to assure privacy and distinction.

Ninety acres of common land buffer the development, to provide at the discretion of the 29 estate community families, walking or riding trails, recreation facilities and beautiful natural woodlands.

Ennisclare Woods is located in old Nassagaweya Township, north east of Campbellville. Typical of the Escarpment, the topography is rolling, varied and, due to limited agricultural potential, has retained most of its natural beauty. The area contains one of the finest aquifers in Canada, assuring a virtually unlimited quantity of pure water.

The developers of Ennisclare Woods encouraged individuality of design while retaining the natural ambience and integrity of each estate. To assure this, appropriate conceptual architectural design and landscaping was subject to final approval from the developer.

Ennisclare Woods is a select enclave screened form the neighbouring properties and public roads by its own buffer lands, yet sharing it surroundings with adjacent residences.

Ennisclare Woods lies at the centre of Ontario's famous Golden Triangle, but it genuinely rural in trust and location. Ennisclare Woods provides a sanctuary for the discriminating homeowner seeking a traditional lifestyle of rural elegance.

"Ennisclare Woods, 163 Years of History

It had been nine years since the border war of 1812 in which Solomon Markle and Ralfe Mordaunt Krisler had served as Privates in the 1st Regiment Lincoln Militia. Both had farmed in the Niagara area and had served with distinction at the side of General Brock at Queenston Heights. In return for active service, Markle and Krisler were granted 100 acres of virgin forest, comprising Lot 23, Concession 5 of the newly surveyed Township of Nasagiweya*, County of Halton, District of Gore, Province of Upper Canada. Their property shared a beautiful height of land on the Niagara Escarpment, form which water flowed north to the Grand River Valley watershed and south to the now historic, 16 Mile and 12 Mile Creeks entering Lake Ontario at Oakville.

Although the properties passed through a succession of hands in the 163 intervening years, the topography has remained essentially unchanged-gently rolling land with highlands cleared at various times for limited agriculture, surrounded with hardwood bush and lowlands of cedar and silver maple.

Ennisclare Woods Phase I occupies 77 [phase II, the remainder] of the 200 acres of Markle and Krisler's original land grant. It is the ultimate use for this magnificent property located at the focus of all aspects of the equine industry in Ontario. Together with its exclusive design and its accessability to major urban centres. Ennisclare Woods provides an ideal formula for locating the modern version of the Country Estate.

Ennisclare Woods, in name, also acknowledges the roots of the equine related social tradition of Halton. The Ennisclare Hunt, established in the early part of the century in Oakville was reregistered in 1975 by a group of local North Halton residents, some of whom are the descendants of the old era in Oakville. The Hunt is thriving today through the efforts of young and enthusiastic membership.

Ennisclare Woods Rural Estate Development, located adjacent to the new home of the Ennisclare Hunt, also promises to give vitality to another old tradition returning with renewed popularity-the modern Manor House with all the requirements and accoutrements that the name implies. Ennisclare Woods provide them all."
